Applanation Tonometry

Applanation Tonometry is the test currently considered to be the most accurate clinical method for measuring the pressure inside the eye. Topical anesthetic drops are installed into the eye. Fluorescein dye (yellow colored ) is applied to the outer portion (cornea ) of the eyeball .Patient is instructed to look straight ahead .The Tonometer tip is touched to the centre of the cornea and the reading is noticed on the instrument.
