Automated Perimetry

Perimetry measure all areas of patient’s eyesight, including side or peripheral vision. The test can help find certain patterns of vision loss which are typical in certain diseases.This test is used to diagnose glaucoma at an early stage and also assess if treatment for glaucoma is preventing further vision loss.It is also used to detect certain neurological condition like brain (pituitary) tumors.To perform this test, patient is made to sit and instructed to look inside a bowl shaped instrument called perimeter. While patient stares at the green light in the centre of the bowl, red light flashes around the green light .Patient presses a button each time he/she sees a flash .A computer records the spot of each flash.At the end of the test, a printout shows if there is area of vision loss.
